「パナックけいてい」は、石巻で最初に家電製品を売り始めたお店。昭和８年ごろぼくのひいおじいちゃんがつくった。今の社長は佐藤秀博さん。ぼくのおじいちゃんの弟。家電製品を売ったり配達をしたり、取り付け工事をしたり、修理をしたりしている。今、お店では、なるべく電器を使わないようなLED電球などを売っている。
ぼくのひいおじいちゃんは、とても機械が好きだったそうだ。兄弟３人ではじめたお店で、最初はラジオを売っていたので、「佐藤兄弟ラジオ紹介」という名前をつけた。みんなが親しみやすい簡単な名前にしたいと思って、今の名前「パナックけいてい」になった。
最初の頃は組み立て式ラジオを売っていた。お客さんが困った時に、すぐ助けてあげられるのが、町の電器屋さんのいいところ。家族のようにおつきあいしているお客さんもいるそうだ。修理したときお客さんに喜んでもらえるのが一番うれしい。電器屋さんの仕事は、人のために役立って、人から喜んでもらえる仕事。佐藤さんは「子どもたちにはぜひいろいろなことに興味をもってほしい」と言っている。

WOW! IT’S THE OLDEST SHOP?
THE ELECTRICAL APPLICANCE STORE IN OUR TOWN

“Panac Keitei” was the first shop in Ishinomaki that sold household electrical appliances. It was set up at around 1933 by my great-grandfather. The person in charge of it now is Mr. Hidehiro Satō, my grandfather’s younger brother. The shop sells home appliances and it also does deliveries, installations, repairs and more. Nowadays, it is selling things like LED light bulbs that use as little electricity as possible. My great-grandfather apparently loved machines. He and his two brothers set up the shop, and at first it was called “The Satō Brothers’ Radio Shop” because it sold radios. It was changed to its present name, “Panac Keitei”, because they wanted a simple name that people could get familiar with. At the start, the shop sold prefabricated radios. Then as time went on, it began to sell more household appliances like light bulbs, rice cookers, washing machines and TVs. The great thing about the town’s electrical appliance store is that it immediately goes to help when customers are in trouble. Apparently, there are some customers that are like family to them. Their greatest source of joy is the happiness of their customers when they repair their appliances. Working at an electrical appliance store is about helping people and making them happy. “I want children to be able to look at all sorts of things and become interested in learning more about them.” Says Mr. Satō.
