2014年11月20日、矢本第一中学校（東松島市）で、石巻地区の中学校技術科の先生向けプログラミング講習会が開催された。普段は教えてくれる先生たちが、勉強しているところを取材した。
どうして技術の先生たちにプログラミングを教えるのだろう？講師の阿部和広さんは、「子どもたちに直接教えると、家に帰って『おもしろかった』だけで終わってしまいがちです。でも、先生たちに教えることで、学校で授業の度に使ってくれます」。先生たちに教えることは、よりたくさんの子どもたちに楽しんでもらえるからだと言う。
今回、先生たちが講習を受けたのは、「ラズベリーパイ」と「スクラッチ」。ラズベリーパイは、世界最小、世界最安のコンピューター。テレビやデスクトップパソコンのディスプレイに接続して使うことができる。スクラッチは、プログラミングをジグソーパズルのようにしたもので、小さい子どもも簡単にプログラミングができ、遊べるパソコン用の無料ソフトだ。
講習を受けた石巻中学校の福島正洋さんは、「ラズベリーパイやスクラッチのことをもっともっと勉強して、生徒にいろいろなことを知ってもらえるようにしたいです」と言っていた。中学校の技術の授業、ますます楽しみだ。

IT’S NOT A SWEET?! THE SMALLEST COMPUTER IN THE WORLD
On November 20th, 2014, a Programming Course for Junior High School Technology Studies teachers of Ishinomaki was held at Yamoto Daiichi Junior High School (Higashi-Matsushima). I provided news coverage of the teachers as they studied in class, just like us students. Coverage, article and photographs by Ren Yaegashi (Ishinomaki Junior High School 1st Grade) Why teach programming to Technology Studies teachers? “If we just teach directly to the children, they’ll go home and say ‘It was fun’ and that will be the end of it. But by having the teachers learn, they can use what they were taught in their students’ lessons.” Said lecturer Mr. Kazuhiro Abe. He explained that having the teachers learn can lead to more children enjoying themselves in class. In today’s session, the teachers were having a lecture on “Raspberry Pi” and “Scratch”. A Raspberry Pi is the smallest and cheapest computer in the world. It can be connected to and used on a TV display or a desktop computer display. Scratch is like turning programming into a jigsaw puzzle, and is a free software for computers that even small children can have fun doing easy programming on. Mr. Masahiro Fukushima of Ishinomaki Junior High School who attended the course said, “I want to study much more about things like Raspberry Pi and Scratch and have students learn a wide variety of things.” I’m looking forward to my Junior High Technology Studies classes even more now.
