こども編集部・３期生から寄せられた「プロスポーツ選手に取材してみたい！」という声を受け、オリックス・バファローズのご厚意で、７月２５日、京セラドーム大阪にて、今シーズンも大活躍の左腕・山崎福也（やまさき・さちや）選手の囲み取材が実現しました。編集部員７名がくり出す思い思いの質問に、山崎選手も目を細めながら、丁寧に答えてくださいました！
小さい頃からいつも
そばにあった野球
プロ野球にあこがれた
●プロ野球選手になろうと思ったきっかけは何ですか？
○父が元プロ野球選手（山崎章弘選手）で、野球との距離が近かったため、自分も野球選手になりたいなと思い始めました。
●野球のどういうところに興味を持ったのですか？
○野球は勝負するところ、勝ち負けがはっきりしている、ピッチャーなら三振をとる、バッターならホームランを打つ。そんなところに子供の頃からひかれていました。
●野球を始めてよかったことは？
○プロ野球選手になれたこと。子供の頃からの夢だったので、今でもよかったなと思います。
●子供の頃の練習方法は？
○野球が好きだったので、学校から帰って来たらすぐバットとグローブとボールを持って、友達と野球をしていました。
●学生のとき、得意だったスポーツは何でしたか？
○野球のほかではやっぱりソフボールなど、球技全般が得意でした。
●中学生のとき、脳腫瘍で入院、手術を経験されましたが、どんなことを思いましたか？
○病気のことを聞かされて頭が真っ白になり、自分は生きられるのかということしか考えられませんでした。手術後生還できて、元気というのは貴重なものだと感じました。
夢の舞台で戦う毎日
力みすぎず、自分らしく
８割全力で投げる
●初めて試合に出たときの気持ちはどんなものでしたか？
○緊張しすぎてあまりいい成績ではなかったけれど、今でも初めて出た試合のことは覚えています。
●一番つらい練習はどんな練習ですか？
○試合でピッチャーをした２日後にする、重りをつけたトレーニングです。翌日は休みですが、疲れも体に残っているので、きついです。
●見ていると軽く投げているように見えますが、自分では思いきり投げているのですか？
○８割全力で投げています。１０割全力だと、１試合もたないからです。バッターを封じるために８割全力で投げます。軽く投げているように見えてうれしいです。
●ピンチのときの気持ちのコントロールはどのようにされていますか？
○おさえたい気持ちが強いと力が入りすぎて力むので、自分を追い込まないようにしています。自分の中では、開き直って投げています。
●今までで一番多くとった点数は？
○満塁ホームランを打ったことがあるので、そのときです。
●今までで一番楽しかった試合は？
○日本シリーズで投げたときです。交流戦でセリーグと対戦してバッティングするのも楽しいです。
●昨年、オールスターに選ばれたときの気持ちを教えてください。
○素直に気持ちよかったです。結果２勝できたので、中島監督には感 謝しています。
●登場曲「life」（Bigfumiさんの曲）はなぜこの曲にしたのですか？
○たまたま聴いていていいなと思って。歌手のBigfumiさんとは仲良くなって、一緒にご飯を食べにいく仲です。
●もし、世界から野球がなくなったとしたら…どんな仕事をしていると思いますか？
○野球がなくなったとしても、何かしらのスポーツをやっていたと思います。体も大きい方だから、好きな水泳をしていたんじゃないかな。
●これからどんなピッチングをしていきたいですか？
○相手チームや球場など、そのときによって考えますが、まずはどんなときでも自分らしいピッチングをしたい。ピンチになったときは焦らず、開き直って投げることを意識しています。一番は「自分らしく」。みなさんも自分の好きな ことを見つけて、がんばってください！

In response to requests from the third-term member, “I want to interview a professional athlete!”, the Orix Buffaloes kindly invited us to interview left-handed baseball player Sachiya Yamasaki, who has been showing outstanding performance this season, at Kyocera Dome Osaka on July 25. Seven members of our editors asked him questions, and he answered them politely and smilingly.
“Ever since I was a child
baseball was always by my side.
I longed to be a professional baseball player.”
⚫What made you decide to become a professional baseball player?
⚪My father was a professional baseball player (Akihiro Yamazaki), and because I was close to baseball, I started thinking that I wanted to be a baseball player too.
⚫What was it about baseball that interested you?
⚪Baseball is a game where you win and lose clearly, where you strike out if you are the pitcher and hit home runs if you are the hitter. I have been attracted to those things since I was a child.
⚫What is the best thing you’ve had about baseball?
⚪I made my dream come true. It was my dream to become a professional baseball player since I was a child, so even now I feel happy about it.
⚫How did you practice when you were a child?
⚪ As I loved baseball, as soon as I got home from school, I would grab a bat, glove, and ball and play baseball with my friends.
⚫What was your favorite sport when you were a student?
⚪Besides baseball, I was good at all ball games, including softball.
⚫When you were in junior high school, you were hospitalized with a brain tumor and underwent surgery.
What did you think when you were told about your illness?
⚪My mind went blank and I couln’t think anything but if I can stay alive or not. After the surgery, I was able to come back alive, and I realized that being healthy is a precious thing.

⚫How did you feel when you competed in a tournament for the first time?
⚪I was too nervous and didn’t do very well, but I still remember my first game.
⚫What was the hardest part of practice?
⚪The training with weights on two days after pitching in a game. The next day is my day off, but I am still tired, so it is tough.
⚫It looks you throw lightly. Do you throw as hard as you can?
⚪I give 80% of my all when I throw because if I throw 100% of my all, I won’t last a whole game. I throw 80% of my effort in order to contain the hitters. I am glad that I seem to be throwing lightly.
⚫How do you control your feelings when you are in tough situation?
○I try not to strain myself too hard because if I have a strong feeling of wanting to hold a team scoreless, I put too much force into my throws.
⚫What is the highest score you have ever scored?
⚪I once hit a grand slam home run, so that was it.
⚫What was the most fun game you have ever played in?
⚪When I pitched in the Japan Series. I also enjoy batting in the interleague games against the Central League teams.
⚫How did you feel when you were selected as an All-Star last year?
⚪I honestly felt great. We ended up winning two games, so I am grateful to Manager Nakajima.
⚫Why did you choose the song “life” (by Bigfumi) for your entrance?
⚪I just happened to be listening to it and thought it was nice. I became good friends with the singer Bigfumi and we go out to eat together.
⚫If baseball were to disappear from the world, what kind of work do you think you would be doing?
⚪I think that even if baseball had disappeared, I would still be doing some kind of sport. I am a big guy, so I think I would be doing swimming, which is my favorite sport.
⚫What kind of pitching do you want to do in the future?
⚪I think about it depending on the opposing team, the ballpark, etc., but first of all, I want to pitch in my own way no matter what the situation is. When I am in a tough situation, I try to pitch with an open mind and not be in a hurry. The most important thing is to “be myself”. I hope you will all find what you love and do your best!
